Culture in Yemen: a Driver for Youth Empowerment | Day 2

On 08 and 09 June 2022, more than 180 people and over 25 speakers attended the two-day hybrid event organized by UNESCO and the European Union, Culture in Yemen: a Driver for Youth Empowerment. Through a live musical performance of Yemeni repertoire, photography exhibitions, a virtual realty experience, and panel discussions, participants emerged themselves into the richness of the Yemeni culture.

On the second day, international and Yemeni experts took stock of progress achieved within the ongoing UNESCO and EU initiatives in urban rehabilitation and creative industries in Yemen. The first panel focused on the rehabilitation of historic cities in Yemen and underlined the engagement of youth and women trough employment and training. In the second panel, experts from cultural and creative industries presented the project achievements, discussed the status and challenges of the industry in Yemen, and the support to cultural institutions to foster Yemeni talents. To close the day, young artists and an architect benefitting from the Cash for Work project shared their experience in safeguarding culture in Yemen.
