The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) &The General Services Administration (GSA) partnered with The Lab at OPM to build a Human-Centered Design Discovery Stage Field Guide. The impetus for this project started in 2016, as our team started working with the VA. Federal employees at the VA have deep institutional knowledge and just needed a few more resources to leverage their skillsets. While there are a lot of human-centered design guides out there, many lacked a deep understanding of the discovery phase and what it means to complete it in government. Our team built a guide that took the key elements of the design discovery process and made it applicable to the government experience.
