Dr Jonaki B Ghosh, Department of Elementary Education, Lady Shri Ram College for Woman, University of Delhi, Delhi
This video highlights the critical aspects of learning geometry as the student traverses through school mathematics. The Van Hieles levels of geometrical thought and its implications for learning geometry have been discussed. Students’ understanding of geometrical shapes and the nature of mental images or prototypes developed by them has been elaborated upon. The role of dynamic geometry software (DGS) as a tool in developing geometrical thinking, especially with regard to making and verifying conjectures has been elucidated through examples. The transition from making conjectures leading to proof via formal argumentation has been described.
